What is Neurodivergent?
It is simply having a brain that is different and unique, not a brain that is less.
"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid." - Albert Einstien.
The Oxford Dictionary defines Neurodivergent as:
"Differing in mental or neurological function from what is considered typical or normal (frequently used with reference to autistic spectrum disorders); not neurotypical."
Divergent and Friends aims to de-stigmatise and celebrate those differences to help Neurodiverse Young People have positive self-identity and the life skills to celebrate and advocate for themselves in order to thrive in a world full of structures that often aren't designed with their different brains, ways and needs in mind.
We offer positive social and individual programs for Neurodiverse young people, their siblings, friends and families. We also understand that the process of diagnosis is often out of reach financially and practically for many families and young people, or parents are not sure if they even want a diagnosis for their Young Person. We don't require any official diagnosis before attending Divergent and Friends programs. Seeking a diagnosis is a personal decision.
